Foundation of Settlement Work, Level 1
The FSW Self-directed courses will run from
October 20 to December 25, 2022
Foundations of Settlement Work in Ontario, Level 1, provides training materials on the immigrant and refugee serving sector.
This course is intended to help front-line practitioners working with immigrants and refugees better understand the immigrant and refugee-serving sector, values, principles, and standards for settlement work, and ways to support newcomers who encounter common barriers and challenges to a successful settlement.

Upon completion of the FSW Level 1 Training, you will be able to:
Demonstrate awareness of the Indigenous peoples in Canada and the treaty obligations to them.
Start thinking about how recent changes to federal and provincial immigration policies and programs have affected settlement work.
Discuss the various IRCC categories and programs for workers, investors, and their family members to enter Canada.
Understand how people in Canada can end up without immigration status
Criteria for Participation:
This course is open to settlement workers and service providers who are working in or with the immigrant and refugee-serving sector across the province who are willing to:
Commit to approximately 3-4 hours of learning per week.
Engage in FSW Group in www.SettleNet.org, a new national online Community of Practice for the Settlement Sector.
Complete assignments within the given timeframe.
At the successful completion of each level, you will receive a certification of completion from OCASI.
