Following a decision to withdraw funding from the African Canadian Legal Clinic, Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is working with members of the Black community to establish a new, community-based organization to deliver legal services to Black Ontarians.

More Information:

In the meantime, in addition to the legal services that LAO already provides, LAO will provide legal services through the Human Rights Legal Support Centre, members of the private bar, and LAO’s Test Case Program.

  • For general legal help, call Legal Aid Ontario at 1-800-668-8258 Monday-Friday between 9 am and 5 pm.
  • For those who identify as Black or African Canadian and have a legal issue that has to do with anti-Black racism, call 1-833-374-8904 or 416-649-2540 Monday-Friday between 9 am and 5 pm.
  • For help with Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario applications, or legal advice for those who have experienced discrimination, contact the Human Rights Legal Support Centre.
  • For those who believe they have a case that advances important public interests, they can apply for funding for a lawyer and the cost of legal action through LAO’s Test Case program.
