Transitional and Housing Support Worker
(Full-time, contract until March 31, 2023 - possibility of extension)
CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or immigration status. CCS is seeking a Full time, (35 hours/week) Transitional and Housing Support Worker to support immigrant and refugee women who are in transition from situations of domestic violence and abuse.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct cases assessments, and provide crisis intervention, transition and safety planning, and follow up supports for women using a client centred case management approach
• Provide appropriate information and referrals to internal and external services as required by the clients
• Assist women with housing applications and with landlord-tenant issues after they have been housed
• Provide information on budgeting, financial assistance programs, Legal Aid, and other community resources
• Develop and maintain a referral network of service providers and community contacts
• Conduct outreach to raise awareness of issues related to domestic abuse and the services provided by CCS
• Work in close collaboration with other CCS service delivery staff teams
• Maintain confidential client files and accurate service statistics, records, reports and other documents as required
• Participate in staff team and case consultation meetings
• Ability to work productively within a collaborative environment comprised of multiple services providers
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Social Work degree or Social Service diploma from recognized institution or equivalent training in the Human Services field
• A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in social service and/or counselling related work in the areas of domestic violence or settlement, or equivalent work experience
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and its impact in immigrant and refugee communities
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the client centred case management approach to service delivery
• Current knowledge of the child welfare system, relevant legislation and policies, and community resources in Peel
• Strong interview, assessment, analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent skills in cross-cultural communication with clients, team members and the general public
• Ability to work collaboratively, multi-task and prioritize efficiently
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Proficiency in a second language relevant to the demographics of Peel Region is an asset
• Ability to work in the CCS offices in both Mississauga and Brampton
Location: Peel Region (Mississauga & Brampton)
Hours of Work: 35 per week, including evening and weekend hours as required.
