Summary:

Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS is seeking eleven (11) Summer Students to provide assistance to our programs in Toronto Region

Requirements:

  • Per funding requirements, these opportunities are open to students aged 15 – 30 years
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team setting with colleagues, service participants and the general public
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required
  • Must commit to full contract duration

IT Assistant

Responsibilities:

This position will be working in the IT Department of the organization and be part of the IT team providing overall tech-support and system administration services to servers, end-user equipment and users:

  • Assist in managing inventory levels for all IT equipment and supplies
  • Configure network equipment (desktops, laptops, switches, routers, etc)
  • Assist in developing online knowledge base and delivery IT training sessions to enhance staff’s computer skills
  • Provide direct End-User support for users at all offices and remote sites
  • Assist the System Administrator with IT administrative tasks

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary student preferred; preference given to candidates in the following fields: science, technology, engineering and mathematic
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Duration & Hours: 8 weeks – from June 10 to August 2, 2019 (35 hours per week)

Research & Data Analysis Facilitator

  • Assist in producing a newcomer needs and trends analysis to support service delivery enhancement for newcomers in Scarborough
  • Conduct analysis of the Census data, service delivery data and other data sets
  • Conduct literature review and produce reports

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary student preferred; preference given to candidates in the following fields: Community and Social Services, Social Work, Computer Science, Statistics or similar
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, research & analytical skills

Summer Project Assistant (Children)

  • Promote and outreach planned activities
  • Assist in coordinating volunteers for the project
  • Prepare monthly statistic and report; analyze statistics and evaluate results; provide feedback and make recommendation for project improvement
  • Answer inquiries about the project
  • Provide clerical support as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Assist in organizing special summer activities for newcomer parents and their school age children to promote family literacy
  • Assist in facilitating activities like reading circles, special circle times for toddlers and preschoolers, lending reading materials for parents & children, workshop on literacy, community resources
  • Promote and increase circulation of lending reading materials for all newcomer parents and their children involved with our Family Literacy activities
  • Prepare and present information workshops for newcomer parents on literacy, community resources, etc.
  • Prepare information packages and family learning kits
  • Provide clerical support as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Assist in organizing summer activities for women especially the stay home group and families, reside in Scarborough Village (e.g. computer training, English conversation groups, information sessions, etc.)
  • Work with the other service providers to organize health related information sessions such as parenting, nutrition, etc.
  • Assist in the development of basic computer training manual
  • Compile settlement resources as discussion topic for the English conversation group sessions
  • Prepare monthly statistic and report
  • Promote and outreach the summer activities

  • To compile the available online settlement & employment related (include self-employment) information binder for the newcomers
  • To run information sessions to introduce the resources to the newcomers and provide support for them to access the online information
  • Work with Toronto Police to run session to assist the newcomers to understand the importance of internet safety
  • To work with other community partner agencies like Libraries and Business Association to introduce all the available online community resources and services to the community especially in the area where most immigrants and refugees reside
  • To answer enquiry about the online resources binder
  • To provide clerical support
  • To perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary student preferred; preference given to candidates in the following fields: Community and Social Services, Social Work, Education or similar
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and internet application including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
