Settlement Worker – Arabic Speaking
(FT – 35 hrs/wk.)
(Short-term contract)

CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS is seeking a full-time (35 hours/week), contract Settlement Worker, Arabic speaking to provide settlement information and referral services in Scarborough to immigrants. Written and verbal fluency in Arabic is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide settlement, orientation, information and referral services at both on-site and off-site locations
• Using a client centred approach, conduct an assessment and assist newcomers in the development of a personalized settlement action plan
• Thorough case management and follow-up contacts, support the achievement of positive client outcomes
• Develop, document and report on client outcomes
• Plan, implement and evaluate group sessions on topics relevant to client settlement needs
• Track all client service activities and ensure data is entered into agency data base and funder reporting systems as required
• Facilitate appropriate referrals and client access to other services in the community
• Conduct community outreach to promote CCS programs and services
• Participate in regular program, team and regional meetings, as well as other internal and external committees as required
• Prepare and submit statistical and progress reports to supervisor on a regular and ad hoc basis as required

QUALIFICATIONS

• Settlement Counselling diploma or equivalent training in the human services field
• Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors
• A clear Criminal Record Check is required
• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
• Demonstrated crosscultural communication skills with participants, other agencies and the public
• Knowledge of community resources and services in Scarborough
• Interview, assessment, analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work effectively with other service providers
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting
• Ability to work productively in an MS Office environment
• Excellent oral and written English skills; Written and verbal fluency in Arabic is required
• Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of accuracy in data collection and reporting
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
• Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is an asset

Location: Scarborough, with some travel within the GTA
Hours: 35 per week, including evenings and weekends hours
Duration: January 1, 2017 to March 31, 2017
Rate of Pay: $27.92/hour, plus 4% vacation
