SEPT Settlement Worker – Tagalog Speaking
Fulltime, Ongoing

CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS is seeking one full-time (35 hours/week) Settlement Worker (Tagalog speaking) to provide settlement services while located in designated schools in Scarborough.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide assessment, information and orientation services to newcomers in a school setting
• Facilitate appropriate referrals and access to services in the community
• Organize, plan and implement group sessions for newcomers and school personnel
• Plan service delivery in cooperation with the host school and Settlement Services Manager
• Work closely with school personnel in planning and delivering joint services
• Participate in regular program and agency team meetings
• Conduct community outreach to promote CCS programs and services
• Prepare and submit statistical and progress reports to supervisor as required

QUALIFICATIONS

• Settlement Counselling diploma or equivalent training in the human services field
• Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors
• A clear, mandatory Vulnerable Sector Screening-Police Reference Check is required
• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
• Demonstrated crosscultural communication skills with participants, other agencies and the public
• Excellent oral and written skills in English and Tagalog is required
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision while ensuring regular communication with the Manager
• Demonstrated interview, assessment, analytical and problem solving skills
• Knowledge of community resources available in Scarborough as well as Toronto Catholic District School Board and Toronto District School Board systems
• Ability to work effectively building and maintaining partnerships with other service providers
• Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
• Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, school staff and SEPT team
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a large, multi-location team
• Possession of a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to a car is an asset

Location: Scarborough
Hours: 35 hours per week, 48 weeks per year, including evenings and weekends hours
Salary: $52,306.80 per annum (pro-rated), plus benefits
