SEPT Settlement Worker – Temporary Contract Part Time
CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race,
religion or status. CCS is seeking one part-time (21 hours/week) Settlement Worker to provide settlement services
while located in designated schools in Scarborough.


 Provide assessment, information and orientation services to newcomer youth and parents in a school setting
 Assist newcomers to develop personalized settlement plans
 Provide case management and supportive counselling to youth and parents
 Facilitate appropriate referrals and access to services in the community
 Organize, plan and implement group activities to address the needs of newcomer youth
 Plan service delivery in cooperation with the host schools, community organizations and SEPT Managers
 Work with Manager to develop new program features that address needs of newcomer youth
 Participate in regular program, team, community and regional meetings
 Develop and implement community outreach plans to promote CCS programs and services
 Maintain and update all client information in a customized database
 Prepare and submit timely statistical and progress reports as required


 Youth Worker diploma, Settlement Counselling diploma or equivalent postsecondary education or training in
the human services field
 Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors with a focus on youth
 Knowledge and experience in working with diverse groups of youth. Experience working with youth from
immigrant, refugee, LGBTQ+ and/or indigenous backgrounds is an asset.
 Knowledge of community resources available in Scarborough as well as Toronto Catholic District School
Board and Toronto District School Board systems
 Understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
 Effective communication skills to work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds
 Ability to engage clients via online communication tools such as Zoom, Teams, Google classroom,
WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram etc.
 Ability to work productively in an MS Office environment and with Web 2.0 tools
 Ability to work independently in an off-site, multi-location work environment with minimum supervision while
ensuring regular communication with SEPT Program Managers and team
 Demonstrated interview, assessment, analytical and problem-solving skills
 Ability to build and maintain strong, ongoing partnerships with schools and community agencies
 Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy in data collection and reporting
 Excellent oral and written skills in English and a second language required. Fluency in Spanish is an asset
 Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
 A clear, mandatory Vulnerable Sector Screening-Police Reference Check Possession of a valid Ontario

Driver’s License and access to a car is an asset
Location: Scarborough
Hours: 21 hrs/week; occasional evenings and weekends as required (4 weeks mandatory unpaid layoff)
Salary: $29,000 -31,000 annual salary (prorated based on weekly hours and annual breaks)
Duration: May-Dec 2021
