Applications are invited for the position of Orientation Support Worker for Catholic Community Services of York Region (CCSYR) that provides a variety of settlement supports and serving a multicultural community in York Region. Under the supervision of the Orientation Program Manager, the Settlement Worker will facilitate the transition to living in York Region primarily for recently arrived newcomers. Strong preference will be given to candidates who can display a solid understanding and knowledge about topics important to the newcomer community so to best understand their needs and rights to provide and connect them with appropriate services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and provides superior customer service. Highly developed problem solving and organization skill to meet deadlines
• Takes initiatives to multi-task and prioritize workload to fulfill the work assigned
• Provides administrative support to programs
• Performs clerical duties, including filing, faxing, photocopying, emailing incoming and outgoing mail, payment requisition preparation, petty cash, meeting preparation, room booking and etc.
• Maintains and updates Orientation Team's MS Office calendars for appointments
• Assists the team with collecting, organizing, and inputting data
• Compiles and generates statistical reports monthly as requested
• Maintains and updates settlement content on CCSYR website and Orientation Team resources lists
• Orders and monitors office supplies and inventory for multiple locations
• Collects expense claims from Orientation Team and organizes them for submission
• Assists in organizing groups, preparing handouts and setting up workshop rooms
• Complete special assignments, i.e. assisting in preparing ·for meetings, events, displays
• Attends and participates in Orientation Team meetings, and be the minutes taker for team meeting
• Represents and supports CCSYR for outreach events that includes promotional material distribution, advertisements, preparation of flyers, printing and etc.
• Assists in initial screening, client's inquiry, providing orientation of available programs and services at Welcome Centers, registration of clients and referring them to appropriate staff and programs, upon request
• Assists in ensuring office health & safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Two (2) years College Diploma in Community Services, Business Administration or equivalence
• Two (2) years of experience in community services and program administration
• Knowledge about the needs and issues of new immigrants
• Thorough understanding of programs and services available to immigrants
• Demonstrated client relations skills
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds
• Demonstrated interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills required to work with clients, team members, volunteers and the general public
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Strong verbal and written skills in English are essential. A second language is an asset
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, database applications, Internet applications and social media
• Experience with databases, knowledge of iCARE, an asset
• Good problem solving and decision making skills
• Must have ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team and to meet strict deadlines
• A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check
• A valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.

Job Type: Full-time Permanent (12 months/year)
