Skills for Change provides multi-sited employment, job skills, career exploration through mentoring and entrepreneurship, job development, and language and settlement programs and services throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Areas.

Program Nature and Scope:

The Marketing team at Skills for Change are responsible for providing logistical, creative and administrative support for client and internal events, program events and social media initiatives. The successful candidate must have excellent organizational, operational, and customer service skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands. As well, the candidate must be comfortable interacting and working collaboratively with management and volunteers. The candidate must be able to work evenings and weekends, when required.

Reports to: Supervisor of Employer Engagement and Program Marketing


  • Assist the Supervisor with organization of all logistics pertaining to various events, including workshops, seminars, trade shows, symposiums, awards gala and others
  • Assist the Supervisor with event registration, sponsorship fulfillment, RSVP management, processing & follow up
  • Assist with securing all event supplies
  • Assist the supervisor with responding to new event inquiries in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assist with facilitating in-person meetings with clients and on-site service providers in order to determine event needs
  • Assisting with communicating with and coordinating logistical details with various internal departments, including but not limited to: catering, custodial, housekeeping, scheduling services, IT/AV, security, residence services, parking services and additional departments or outside providers for which support may be required
  • Contributing to special department projects as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager of the Marketing department
  • Provide on-site support on day of events
  • Support online and digital media activities and plans as needed

  • Assist with marketing and communication pieces for events, including email blasts, promotional materials and event concepts

  • Excellent media editing (photo, video & text) and presentation skills
  • An enthusiastic and creative approach to events and fundraising campaign ideas
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High levels of curiosity and the desire to take initiative to learn new things
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher & Word
  • Proficiency with WordPress and web design/web development
  • Proven working experience with content development for website, social media and press relations as well as effective and timely responding to social media comments
  • Demonstrate knowledge in social networking, social analytics tools and online marketing channels
  • Creative design experience developing marketing materials in Adobe Suite
  • Ability to work under pressure and to adhere to project deadlines, prioritizing tasks accordingly
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and client service skills
  • Exceptional planning and coordination skills to organize own workload, and to perform tasks under minimal supervision
  • A commitment to Skills for Change’s mission of helping immigrants and refugees, and an understanding of the value of multiculturalism


  • Bachelor of Arts in media studies, communications or advertising
  • And/or Bachelor of Business degree
  • And/or a post-secondary certificate or degree in media studies, communications or advertising
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in events coordination, marketing and digital content writing and management
  • 3-5 years of experience in Website administration of Wordpress based websites
  • 3-5 years of experience developing interactive online copy and content
  • 3-5 years of experience in Content writing for social media platforms, and the uses of social for marketing
  • 3-5 years of experience in WordPress, Adobe Suite (including Photoshop and InDesign), Social Media Marketing (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn)
  • 3-5 years of experience with email marketing service provider tools and reporting – Constant Contact, Eventbrite, Survey Monkey
  • And/or relevant direct experience working with newcomers, equity seeking communities
  • Ability to secure a Police Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory and must be provided prior to starting employment

Contract type: 4 Month Contract (Union)
Hours: 20 hours per week (Monday - Friday, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours)
Start date: July 16, 2019
End date: November 16, 2019
Location: 791 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto / Occasional Travel to York/Peel
