Specifics: Self-directed role, interacting directly with program participants, providing services in individual and group settings to individuals who need support with stabilizing their own daily life. Coaches for social, emotional, mental and physical stability of participants who expressed challenges during covid19 time. Daily activities are self-guided, distributed between support to clients and support to the program team, and are aligned with specifics of the individual participant needs.

Life coach is empowered to develop and tailor coaching plans and models (coordinated with program team and approved by program supervisor); to create tentative calendars of activities for the week, including schedules to monitor coping mechanisms of individuals they work with. Support will be provided through conversations, discussions, variety of (virtual) activities, coaching, presentations, workshops, webinars (live or recorded), guidance, counselling, information and knowledge sharing, training, mentoring, and using the following methods, approaches and techniques: attentive and active listening, interactive and nurturing respectful relationship approaches, demonstrating, role playing, repeated facilitation, prompting, modeling, reinforcement, self-monitoring observing and shadowing, networking and peer circles.

Maintains regular open communication, feedback to, and coordination with program team.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate strong communication skills and empathy and proven understanding and knowledge of the LD community and individuals with disabilities.

Areas of Responsibilities:

Programming – Life coaching: 70%

Directly and effectively works with program participants, follows their individual needs, provides direct supports to assist in and ensure smooth transition into stabilized daily life activities, including employment. Establishes regular communication with participants.
- Conduct recruiting, screening, intake and orientation sessions
- Contribute to program curriculum, develop workshops, share ideas and knowledge
- Support assessment and re-assessment of registered program participants to identify potential recurring barriers they face in order to assist them overcome
- Provide guidance in identifying and matching individual environment, interests, skills and aptitudes
- Identify methods, tools and approaches that meets individual needs
- Develop customized individual support to participants, guidance and coaching
- Use coaching techniques (prompting, modeling, reinforcement, teach self-monitoring)
- Guide, instruct, educate, mentor, train and support participants
- Support participants with appropriate sensitive approach on disclosures
- Facilitate sessions (individual / group) on identified topics to address participant needs
- Mentor and individually coach participants to support their life stabilization
- Assist participants develop life skill tools, gain information and knowledge
- Assists participants gain information, knowledge, behaviors about civic engagement and community related services
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders and act as advocate for participants ensuring a wider community support
- Maintain trustworthy relationship with program participants
- Develop calendar of coaching interventions including
- Work in tandem with the program team
- Keep records and updates of participants performance in timely manner
- Conduct feedback and evaluation sessions

Program support: 30%
- Provide regular reports on participants progress and performance
- Use POES program online platform and activity tracking notes for reporting
- Continue to support clients in 6 weeks post program support
- Manage client files in paper (and electronic) formats, update client notes regularly
- Conduct outreach activities and recruitment as per program requirements
- Participates in program and agency operations, including meetings, reporting, decision-making as required
- Coordinate information, activities and linkages with other LDATD programs

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills (N.O.C: 4153; 4033; 4215):

• Bachelor’s Degree/College Diploma (Life Skills Counselling, Humanities, Social/Support Work, Sociology, Education, Teaching, Human Resources, Career Counselling, or related studies)
• Minimum of 3 years of working experience with individuals in a community-based environment, offering client-oriented services and programs.
• Competent and confident in needs assessment, facilitation and presentation, mentoring, counselling, coaching and client support.
• Solid knowledge of community resources, programs, supports.
• Researching skills.
• Understanding of barriers individuals face in everyday life, social, economic, cultural integration.
• Understanding of Learning Disabilities (LDs) and AD(H)D.
 Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competency.
 High level of communication ability – listening, spoken and written
• Strength in building rapport and customer service
• Self-motivated, self-directed, goal and results-oriented
• Able to set priorities and remain focused on results.
• Organized, flexible and adaptable: with superior time management skills.
• Proficient at providing quality reports and deliverables.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a multicultural/multiracial/ anti-oppressive environment
 Proficiency with computers and software applications and social platforms (Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; Zoom), various web browsers, Internet networks.

Working conditions and hours: During response to pandemic time variety of delivery modalities are in place, including virtual.
- Regular work week: 25 H
- Self-directed role, split between participant support, progress report and program team support
- Hours between 9:00 and 5:00 pm, coordinated with immediate supervisor to respond to program priorities
- Start date: 18 Feb 2021
