The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre (OCCSC) established in 1975 is a non-profit, non-partisan, charitable organization committed to advancing the full social and economic integration and participation of newcomers, immigrants and refugees. We are now looking for an Executive Director to lead us through more exciting challenges and changes. This position is permanent and full-time.


The position reports directly to the President but works with the full Board of Directors to ensure that the organization’s mandate and mission are met. The Executive Director, as the leader, visionary, voice and the representative of the OCCSC will oversee and direct the organization to ensure the day-to-day operations of all programs are executed in an efficient and effective manner.      


include, but are not limited to:

  • Program Development and Delivery
    • Develops long-term strategies, with 3, 5 and 10 year benchmarks in keeping with the vision and mission for the organizations
    • Drives annual strategic planning to translate the vision and mission to targets, objectives and workplans
    • Ensures programs and services are developed and implemented in accordance with funding requirements
  • Public Relations
    • Engages with employers, the business sector and funders
    • Forges strong relationships and cooperation with community groups and organizations
    • Strategizes the use of social media and other forms of outreach, such as radio, newsletter and the OCCSC website
    • Serves as the spokesperson for the OCCSC
    • Advocates for the OCCSC, its clients, constituents and programs to promote changes which are in the best interests of immigrants and refugees
  • Financial Management
    • Works with the Board, Finance Committee and staff on financial planning and analysis
    • Manages and reports as required to funding bodies on deliverables
    • Develops and negotiates proposals with various levels of funders
    • Supports and nurtures innovative fundraising opportunities
  • People Management
    • Fosters an organizational culture which attracts, retains and inspires people to action
    • Promotes ongoing professional development opportunities for all staff
    • Working with the Board of Directors and Personnel Committee to develop succession plans
    • Monitors the organizational structure to ensure the right people are in the right positions at the right time to ensure program and organizational success


to be considered for this exciting opportunity:

  • Post-secondary degree in Social Science, Business Management, International Policy or other relevant field
  • 5 – 10 years of successful leadership experience in the non-profit sector, working closely with a Board of Directors
  • Proven ability to create a vision and strategy to enable successful outcomes
  • Proven ability to mobilize people, leading them through change
  • Communication skills that display a high level of written and verbal articulation, an ability to inspire action, show empathy and cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrated track record of success in senior stakeholder management
  • Career that has displayed innovative solutions to complex or sudden changes
  • Strong understanding and ability to read financial statements, projections and estimates
  • Ability to speak Mandarin and or Cantonese is desirable
