Summary:

Achev is looking for an eLearning Developer for the National LINC Online Curriculum and Online PBLA Project. Reporting to the Project Manager, the eLearning Developer will be responsible for building the NLOC eLearning courseware units, programming (coding) within select activities, and integrating eLearning activities seamlessly with the LMS. This is a full-time contract position for eight months, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid environment.

Currently in it's fourth year, this project is developing Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) online curriculum for Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels 3 to 5 across all skill areas (L/S/R/W). The five-year project funded by IRCC will contribute to building online courseware material and resources to support LINC service providers across Canada in the delivery of efficient and effective online language training. The project will enable LINC instructors across Canada to use a PBLA-supported, ready-made solution for their online or blended training programs, facilitate the use of avenue.ca for distance language education and provide newcomers with the official language skills needed to achieve their integration goals.

Please note that all applicants should submit samples of work/portfolio link when applying. All applicants must be able to dedicate 40 hours of work each week, from Monday to Friday, between the hours 9:00 to 5:00PM EST. Applicants must reside in Ontario and be legally authorized to work full time in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the eLearning Development team, Multimedia Design team, and content writers to streamline content development and workflows
  • Develop courseware to standards (including accessibility standards - WCGA 2.0 level AA) using various authoring tools (H5P, Moodle, Storyline 360)
  • Integrate multimedia (video, audio, images, GIFs) and other assets into courseware units
  • Test functionality, upload and re-test activities from Moodle and Storyline 360 into avenue.ca
  • Participate in weekly status updates and standing meetings
  • Participate in defining technical requirements and functional specifications and make recommendations on best learning tools to meet needs
  • Create prototypes for select eLearning activities
  • Effectively present technical ideas and information to a lay audience (ex. Writers, graphic designers)
  • Stay abreast of new developments in eLearning and their potential uses; bring ideas forward
  • Adhere to version control and file management best practices
  • Adhere to quality control and development standards
  • Participate in training as needed
  • Package courseware for delivery onto LMS
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary degree, preferably in computer programming or web design
  • 2+ years experience in custom software solution development and delivery (HTML, CSS, *JavaScript) and online media-rich application (HTML5, XML)
  • 2+ years experience in developing custom eLearning using eLearning authoring tools
  • 1+ years experience in Moodle development and integration of Moodle with other applications (Moodle APIs/interfaces)
  • Proficient in custom and off-the-shelf eLearning development software (Articulate, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Proficient in MS Office (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Drive
  • Experience programming and packaging to SCORM and other eLearning standards
  • Knowledge of version control software and systems
  • Knowledge of UX/UI design and accessibility standards (WCGA 2.0 level AA)
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to respect diversity and work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds
  • Excellent organizational skills, flexible with change and able to meet deadlines
  • Experience with audio and video production is considered an asset
  • Experience with storyboarding is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles is considered an asset
  • Not-for-profit or settlement sector experience is considered an asset
