The Family and Mental Health Centre requires a consultant with a strong communication and research background to design, conduct, and submit a report on a research study on extremist narratives among posts on gaming sites as a pathway to the radicalization of Canadian youth.
This 9-week contract position is scheduled to work remotely online with some in-person meetings at the designated location as required.
The researcher will provide invoices for the tasks completed according to the following timeline:February 28, 2023• Conduct an environmental scan and preliminary review of the literature• Conduct and record face-to-face and/or telephone interviews with at least five stakeholders (e.g. academics, service providers, parents), in accordance with predetermined interview protocol and data collection procedures • Complete transcripts/notes of interviews • Complete analysis of stakeholder interviews
March 31, 2023• Present about the study at COSTI’s Annual Gambling, Gaming, and Technology Use Conference • Produce a research proposal including a review of literature and methodology • Develop research and recruitment tools • Apply for research ethics approval
The researcher will also participate in group meetings with other COSTI team members and update meetings with the General Manager as negotiated.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
• A combination of academic and work experience relevant to designing and conducting research• Organisation and time management skills• Interviewing and data collection experience• Excellent written communication skills (may need to provide a relevant writing sample)• Excellent verbal communication skills to present ideas and conclusions at a Conference
