Compensation: $24.00 per hour

Position Summary

Under the general guidance of the Supervisor – Health Promotion and the Lead - Community Health Ambassador, the incumbent will provide culturally specific community outreach, education, information and promote awareness and safety regarding the COVID-19 pandemic within the Peel community.

Responsibilities and Duties (but not limited to)

▪ Share COVID-19 related information to community members and local businesses.

▪ Inform and educate community members on COVID-19 public health measures and reinforce provincial and regional guidelines for physical distancing, hand washing and mask wearing.

▪ Organize COVID-19 information sessions, and distribute resources through tabling sessions/events, presentations at local community venues, religious venues and businesses.

▪ Dispel culturally specific myths/misinformation through culturally and language specific education and information sessions.

▪ Promote and educate the community of the potential COVID-19 vaccination program.

▪ Engage with local businesses, community groups, religious organizations, and respond to community members. queries and concerns regarding COVID-19 and provide strategies and resources to reduce and mitigate the spread of COVID 19.

▪ Provide guidance on how to properly wear a mask and distribute PPE kits to those who need them.

▪ Conduct virtual wellness checks on community members in isolation due to a COVID-19 diagnosis.

▪ Refer community members to appropriate resources and supports within the community.

Qualifications and Skills

▪ Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly convey information in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain messaging.

▪ Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English and a second language (Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese preferred).

▪ Must be able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and from a variety of locations within the Region of Peel.

▪ Demonstrate a strong interest in making an impact in the community through service, leadership, and education.

▪ Ability to motivate a sometimes unreceptive, uninformed or misinformed diverse population, including community members, business owners and other local agencies to modify behavior to reduce and mitigate the spread of COVID 19.

▪ A high degree of conflict management to dealing effectively with others in hostile situations; using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict.

▪ Sensitivity to people from different socio-economic backgrounds with an equity lens.

▪ Self-directed, self-motivated, with a positive attitude and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

▪ Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adjust to shifting priorities.

▪ Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.

As essential frontline workers, Community Health Ambassadors will be prioritized for the COVID-19 vaccine and testing.
