CNC (Care for Newcomer Children) Supervisor

  • Work with the Language and Settlement Director in the management of CNC human resources including but not limited to hiring, training, coaching, supervising, performance managing including conduct of performance evaluations and recommending disciplining and terminating of staff where applicable
  • Participate in the design of certain JIAS Toronto policies and ensure all organizational and CNC policies and procedures are followed by staff
  • Responsible for overseeing and balancing CNC program budget, including purchases and attendance at management meetings where applicable to review same
  • Represent the agency with government project managers and other funders as required
  • Represent the JIAS Toronto CNC program to parents and act as liaison between the organization and parents
  • Responsible for record keeping of CNC files as per CMAS and organizational requirements
  • Prepare and provide written monthly reports to the Language & Settlement Director and/or her designate as per reporting requirements
  • Plan, prepare, and carry out a culturally-sensitive program that meets the physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs of the children
  • Involve CNC staff in the day-to-day planning and implementation of the program
  • Have knowledge of child abuse signs and report them to the Language & Settlement Director and proper authorities
  • Keep accurate daily records of children’s attendance, learning patterns, progress and other aspects of the CNC Program
  • Facilitate activities that encourage respect for the values, customs and traditions of diverse cultures
  • Prepare a JIAS Toronto CNC Program newsletter on a monthly basis
  • Attend PD opportunities, staff meetings and annual general meetings as required
  • Complete special projects as requested by the Language and Settlement Director and/or Executive Director
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Must have ECE certification or CMAS acceptable qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a childcare environment
  • Proven administrative abilities
  • Experience in the not for profit sector – an asset
  • Experience working with newcomers, non-English speaking children
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must hold a valid First Aid certificate, including anaphylaxis response and CPR Training, and partake in periodic First Aid and CPR training
  • Must have TB and other medical tests as mandated by CMAS
  • Skilled in computers
