Summary:

Centre for Immigrant and Community Services CICS is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to empower newcomers in settling and integrating as contributing members of Canadian society through diverse, professional and innovative programs and services. CICS works to enable newcomers to fully integrate, participate and contribute to all spheres of Canadian society.

Funded by the Federal Government of Canada, CICS is recruiting candidates to fill the following positions. Please note that the positions will be offered only if the funding is approved.

Positions:

  • Youth Services Program & Research Assistant
  • Settlement Program & Outreach Assistant
  • Community Researcher and Liaison

Terms and Conditions:

Salary: $14 per hour
Hours: Work hours may vary from 30 to 35 hours per week for a period of 8 to16 weeks from May 6 to August 23, 2019; some positions may require the applicants to work on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Applicant MUST meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Foreign students are not eligible.

Youth Services Program & Research Assistant - York Region

Anticipated Start Date: June 3, 2019

This position supports the programs and activities created for newcomer youths who require community resources and guidance for a smooth transition into the new environment.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist in planning and coordinating a neighborhood research project in the York Region Area
  • To participant in outreach initiatives to recruit participants to the research project and IYC related programs
  • To provide basic information to clients about programs and services
  • To provide assistance in administrative functions such as registration, receiving clients, taking and re-directing calls, make appropriate referrals, etc. to process data and keep proper documentation.

Requirements:

  • Preferred field of studies: Sociology, Social Work, Marketing and Business
  • Language Requirement: English and Cantonese/Mandarin

Settlement Program & Outreach Assistant - York Region

Anticipated Start Date: May 6, 2019

This position supports the activities that target at seniors, women, and youth who are newcomers of diverse cultural backgrounds, who may not aware of the settlement resources available in their community while settling down in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist program staff in program and activities promotion and outreach of multicultural nature
  • To assist program staff in planning and delivery of specific orientation and integration activities for youth, women, and seniors
  • To provide administrative support to the settlement team, such as preparation and organization of program/ activity materials; data management; reports, etc.

Requirements

  • Preferred field of studies: Sociology, Social Work, Marketing and Business
  • Language Requirement: English and Cantonese/Mandarin

Community Researcher and Liaison - North York

Anticipated Start Date: May 6, 2019

The position supports newcomers and refugees by educating them about Canadian history and heritage, as well as highlighting and showcasing resources available in the community to help them integrate into Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist in planning and coordinating the summer events
  • To assist in outreaching to different community services to participate in the event and introduce their services
  • To assist in outreaching and liaising among ethnic communities in Markham to invite them to participate in the special event with cultural performances

Requirements:

  • Preferred field of studies: Sociology, Social Work, Marketing and Business
  • Language Requirement: English and Cantonese/Mandarin
