Summary
This is a part time union position working 27.5 hours per week (closure period: December 24, 2023 to January 5, 2024; March 11, 2024 to March 15, 2024)
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists in planning, supervising and implementing activities and programs to meet the complex needs of children
• Ensures that all programs encourage and promote the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of all children.
• In consultation with the program ECE, liaises with parents to encourage effective parenting skills and involves parents in the programs and activities.
• Purchases and prepares the children’s daily snacks and supplies; recommends the purchase of toys, equipment and other resource material needed in the childcare program.
• Maintains, cleans and disinfects children’s toys, furniture, and shelving area; ensures bedding is changed weekly.
• Assists the program ECE in ensuring that program setup, delivery and documentation meet the National LINC Childminding Guidelines.
• Assists with program orientation to parents and children during intake reviews and collecting documentation for child registration and preparing children files.
• Takes part in keeping accurate attendance, follows up on absences and maintains records for monthly reports and statistics as required.
• Conducts fire drills and other health and safety procedures as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Early Childhood Management Certificate.
• Knowledge of LINC Childminding, as well as the new Care for Newcomer Children model
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide leadership to a team of childcare professionals.
• Possession of a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening Certificate - must have been completed within last 6 months.
• Experience working with preschoolers/toddlers.
• Creative, imaginative and anti-bias approach to programming.
• Sensitive to and understanding of the needs of children and their parents who are new to Canada.
• Excellent English skills and ability to communicate in Ukrainian would be an asset.
• Experience working with school-aged children an asset.
• Must be fully vaccinated or be exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds. COSTI reserves the right to require information establishing the validity of the exemption.

SALARY RANGE: $33, 262 - $35, 793 per annum + benefits
