Description:

OCASI - Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants invites you to participate in: Fostering Inclusivity for LGBTQ+ Newcomers: A Webinar Series for Frontline Workers.

The settlement process can be especially challenging for LGBTQ+ newcomers. This series of webinars allows the opportunity for frontline workers to learn and discuss how they can better serve immigrants, refugees and newcomers who identify as LGBTQ+ by understanding intersections, biases and best practices.

Webinar 4: A Brief Presentation about LGBTQ+ Rights and Status in the Middle East

This webinar will look at LGBTQ+ rights in the Middle East, where homosexuality is illegal in 10 of the 18 countries that make up the region, and punishable by death in 4 of them.

Presenter:

  • Ayman Menem is a Syrian researcher who holds a doctorate degree in Constitutional Law, specializing in Civil Society Movements and Human Rights. He was one of the first openly gay men in Syria, and has been active in the defense of the rights of the LGBTQ+ Community in the Arab world since 2004.
