OCASI - Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants is pleased to announce is pleased to announce our joint Accessibility Initiative & Positive Spaces Initiative Bilingual Roundtable Discussion: Stigma and Us: Biases within our work.

Roundtable discussions aim to provide service providers with an opportunity to discuss the gaps that exist in serving folks at multiple margins, and collaboratively working on developing strategies to support immigrants and refugees in these intersections socially, politically and economically.

This roundtable will be focusing on the ways in which biases (learned, imposed, and everything in between) affect not only the clients we serve, but also impact the quality of service delivery. This roundtable will encourage service providers working across sectors to reflect on the ways in which we reinforce biases within our work, and how we can collectively work together to overcome these biases to address barriers that clients face. We hope to achieve this through co-creating tools on how to change and/or create more accessible and positive spaces within agencies and across regions.

Further, in the hopes of fostering a community of practice across the region, this roundtable will have representatives from different agencies representing varying levels of oppressions faced by immigrant and refugee communities from agencies geared towards; LGBTQIA+ folks, folks living with mental and physical disabilities, and folks who serve newcomers to Canada.

Moreover, as we see that the need for these opportunities are not limited to the English speaking community, we will be hosting the session in both French and English, having Francophone and Anglophone representation on the panel, followed by break-out sessions in both official languages.
