Nature and Scope of Responsibilities:

The Project Coordinator supports the implementation of the Newcomer Outreach component of the Prevention of Sexual Violence and Harassment Project. The Coordinator will help in responding to the needs of immigrant communities and the settlement of newcomers by raising awareness about sexual violence and harassment among immigrants and refugees through outreach and public education efforts and implementing a public education campaign.


The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) acts as a collective voice for immigrant and refugee-serving organizations and coordinates a response to shared needs and concerns. OCASI is a registered charity governed by a volunteer board of directors. OCASI’s membership is comprised of over 200 community-based organizations in Ontario.


  • Develops and implements launch of graphic novel and other outreach materials in 4 cities across Ontario
  • Organizes and implements educational and outreach events on sexual violence across Ontario in which project materials are utilized
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to encourage and obtain stakeholder and/or community support
  • Identify and coordinate with program teams and advisory groups to recommend outreach project development and implementation
  • Updates project work plans, timelines, implementation strategies and plans for the newcomer outreach initiative
  • Ensure that project deliverables meet OCASI’s standards, are clearly understood by project partners /contractors, and are executed in a manner that contributes to OCASI members’ learning and best practice development
  • Coordinate the outreach of graphic novel, news releases, graphics, brochures, pamphlets and other materials through ethnic media and television programs and distributing printed 2 copies in newcomer communities, through settlement organizations, as well as in spaces including universities, places of worship, settlement agencies, grocery stores and other venues
  • Plan, facilitate and conduct meetings
  • Develop and implement an outreach and promotion strategy that strengthens relationships with and amongst Immigrant and Refugee serving agencies across the province
  • Determine projects priorities and manage tasks accordingly
  • Prepare, monitor and track progress of project deliverables and timing, identifying issues and providing advice on project progression
  • Stay current with social media trends, language, outlets, and resources on how to best promote awareness
  • Work with internal teams to create compelling approaches to raise awareness among key audiences
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong editorial skills is a requirement
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role as a coordinator working in a non-profit or community based agency in the areas of Settlement Services, Human Resources in the immigrant service sector or other relevant community services sector
  • Minimum 3 years experience in community outreach and education
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of violence against women issues in immigrant and refugee communities; Experience with marketing of social justice campaigns, Strong relationship-building and networking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including effective consultation and analytical skills; and the ability to effectively influence decision-makers
  • Post-secondary education in Social Work or equivalent education or training in a Human Services field
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of settlement issues, barriers and information needs of newcomers
  • Experience in program coordination, including program planning, developing work plans, priority setting, keeping track of expenses, writing reports to funders, and evaluation
  • Ability to work as part of a team/collaborative
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, partners, staff and volunteers
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, independent, ability to meet tight deadlines and demanding schedules
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills; Strong work ethics, sound judgment, sensitive to diversity
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing social media tools to promote projects/campaigns
  • Able to travel across Ontario

Our Commitment:

Part-time, 21 hours/week 3 Month Contract (July 3 – September 30 2017)
Compensation: $47,000 prorated+ plus benefits package
