North York Community House requires a Summer Camp Coordinator.

North York Community House is committed to working with individuals, groups and neighbourhoods to address the issues that are of concern to them. From reducing isolation for newcomers and providing support to new parents, to bringing together residents to strengthen their communities, our goal is to provide the support people need today, in order for them to succeed tomorrow.

The Summer Camp Coordinator provides planning and program support for the Lotherton summer camp for children (ages 6-12).

Reports to: Coordinator, Summer Camp

Responsibilities:

Program Support

  • Plan, develop and ensure activities are carried out that are culturally sensitive and appropriate for the physical, intellectual, and social development for children (ages 6-12)
  • Plan and implement field trips/outings
  • Supervise and train camp counselors, TDSB students and volunteers
  • Understand and adhere to health and safety requirements in setting up activities and camp space
  • Attend to the physical and emotional needs of each participant
  • Supervise participants at all times, and respond to emergency situations quickly and appropriately
  • Work with other agency staff and community partners in implementing camp activities and events
  • Participate in NYCH trainings and meetings as required
  • Liaise with parents around program information, and respond to any questions or concerns
  • Ensure awareness and understanding of program schedule, plans and requirements
  • Program/activity preparation, purchase program supplies, set up and clean up
  • Additional support and duties as required

Documentation and Reporting

  • Record and submit program attendance, registration and other reports as required
  • Submit receipts and other documentation for purchases to camp coordinator
  • Produce statistical and narrative report at the end of each session
  • Report regularly to Coordinators, Language Training and Children’s Programs
  • Submit TDSB students attendance forms regularly and on time

Qualifications:

Education

  • Post-secondary (Community College, Technical Institute, University) education in social services, physical education or education

Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience working with participants ages 6-12, particular in summer camp programs
  • Experience supervising paid staff and volunteers
  • Experience working in/knowledge of the Lotherton-Caledonia neighbourhood is an asset
  • Highly motivated, positive attitude and ability to work well in a team
  • Responsible, dependable and punctual, with timely communication with staff/supervisor
  • Oral and written communication skills in other language(s) an asset
  • First aid/CPR training is an asset
  • Experience in teaching creative arts and/or sports an asset
  • An updated police reference check will be required upon employment

Other Requirements

  • Typically works 40 hours per week, as determined by program needs, with occasional additional hours

Location: North York Community House offices at Lotherton Village and Lawrence Square Mall; other locations visited as part of program

Rate of Pay: $15.00 per hour

Duration: July 4 – August 21, 2012
